GFDD is a global movement
of people with disabilities working together to further human rights and
development for underprivileged disabled people. It focus on the disabled
people that others forget. People in disability and in poverty, who face
discrimination, whose voices are ignored. It helps disabled people fight for
the rights that are denied. The right to eat, right to stay on their land. To
an education. To have a say in the decisions that shape their lives. It is not
about giving handouts or telling disabled people what to do, because in the
long run we know that doesn’t work. Instead, it use its resources,
influence and experience to help disabled people find their own solutions. It
listen to what disabled people really want and need. It help disabled
communities to take action together to hold their governments to account, and
it give local disabled peoples organizations its support where they need it.
Together, it is making a lasting difference. Its works are defined in Thematic
Areas of (1) Right to Education for disabled children, (2) Right to Health of
disabled people (3) Right to Human Security of disabled people (4) Disabled
Women’s Rights (5) Right to Justice and Democratic Governance (6) Right
to Food for the disabled and destitute people and (7) Right to live in honor
and dignity. It is Linking all these is our geographically based integrated
Partnerships Against discrimination and poverty which is being
implemented by the international communities such as United Nations. It is
building on the experiences and lessons learnt from the initial work, and where
appropriate creating linkages with existing thematic areas.
